Broadmeadows Central Shopping Centre is more than just a place to shop. For many people, it’s a place where experiences are shared, lasting memories are formed and where love stories can begin.
Amarachi and Michael's love story began in October 2018 when they met while working at a theatre company teaching drama to high school students in St Albans. They quickly became close and spent a lot of time together, even dropping Michael off at work at the local Woolworths was a cherished routine for Amarachi.
Over the next four years, Broadmeadows Central became a special place for the couple – it’s where they had their first date at Burger Love, spent time in the food court and shops, and played games at the arcade. For Amarachi, she came to appreciate Michael's love for the northside as it was the place where they shared some of their biggest relationship milestones.
One December day, Michael took Amarachi on a sentimental trip around Broadmeadows, showing her where he grew up, went to school and hung out on weekends. It was a romantic and nostalgic journey that set the stage for the most significant milestone of their relationship yet. Abruptly, Michael told Amarachi they had to go to the shopping centre to deal with some last-minute business. Amarachi was slightly annoyed, thinking it would eat into their dinner reservations – but little did she know, Michael had something much more significant planned.
He arranged for their family and friends to meet them in the carpark, all holding candles. When Amarachi stepped out of the car, she saw Michael down on one knee, holding a beautiful ring. She began to cry as he proposed. The shopping centre carpark, where they had officially become girlfriend and boyfriend four years prior, had now become the place where they took the next step in their relationship. While the shopping centre isn’t the most conventional proposal location, it was perfect for Amarachi and Michael – and that's all that matters. Just a few months later, they we married, solidifying their love story forever.
Amarachi and Michael are both very successful in their colourful careers, with Amarachi working as a playwright, actor, and spoken word artist at a theatre company and Michael being an actor who has appeared on Binge, Netflix, and ABC. You might have seen him in Paper Champions (Netflix), Why Are You Like This, Love Me, and the cheeky barman in Colin from Accounts (Binge).
Their love story may not be fancy, but it's genuine, and that's what makes it special – they wouldn't change anything about it. Amarachi and Michael's story is a testament to the fact that love can happen anywhere, and sometimes the most unexpected or ordinary of places hold the most sentimental value and extraordinary memories. Congratulations to Amarachi and Michael!
